Behind the Design: V&A Inspired Collection
For AW17, we worked with the renowned V&A museum, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance, to reinvigorate four classic textile designs.
Here we speak to our Buying and Product Development Manager, Nicola Fenton along with the V&A team: Amelia Calver, Licensing Research & Development Manager, and Lauren Sizeland, Business Development and Licensing Director, to present the extraordinary collection and inspiration that led to each rug design.
Nicola, Buying and Product Development Manager at Flair Rugs, talks us through the inspiration behind the collection:
“The V&A museum and Flair Rugs share a common passion for craftsmanship and design.
As the world leading museum of art and design, we wanted to use the V&A’s extensive archives to create a collection that links to the current trends in interiors, particularly the art deco theme.
Geometric prints, monochrome, floral patterns and shiny metallics are all linked to this era. We used this as a starting point, selecting well known William Morris, Gregory Brown prints and other 1930’s textiles and reinvigorating them into a beautiful collection of timeless and luxurious rugs for our AW17 collection.
Quality materials and craftmanship were key to the collection.
The rugs are woven by our artisan weavers using a combination of wool and viscose, which really captures that sheen from the art deco area where it was all about the opulence.”
Every one of our exclusive designs inspired by the V&A tells a story …. read more on our Luxmi website here.
