UCLAN textile students have design on new Kids collection

MAY, 2018

Flair Rugs has been working behind the scenes with talented textile students from The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) to develop a range of children’s rugs for Flair’s Spring/Summer 2018 range.

The project was devised to offer the budding textile designers the chance to see one of their designs realised from the drawing board, to production, then finally becoming a Flair rug.

Nicola Fenton, Buying and New Product Development Manager at Flair Rugs, and a long-standing advocate of mentoring younger generations of designers, said;

“At Flair we want to support young generations of designers and a live brief is a great way to connect students with the commercial world.  We’ve been overwhelmed by the high standard of the designs and the level of creativity we’ve seen from the students. Designing a kids collection has really brought out the element of fun and imagination – we’re looking forward to working with the winning students in developing the designs for production.”

Angie Jones, Course Leader BA(Hons) Textiles at the School of Art, Design and Fashion recognises the commercial importance of the project;

“Undertaking this project with Flair Rugs will give UCLan Textile students the opportunity to step into a commercial process, to understand all the elements that are needed to bring a design to fruition and to gain important insights into their own design process.”

The winning designs will feature in Flair’s SS18 collection.
